Spin, Twist and Win with Microgaming’s New Six Acrobats Online Slot

MicrogamingMicrogaming has previewed its new Oriental-themed online slot game, Six Acrobats. Comes complete wth animated characters, free spins and a high jackpot

Microgaming has previewed its latest online slot game, and – good news for players – it’s one in which up to 390,000 coins can be won. The Asian-themed slot, called Six Acrobats, is set in a red theatre and takes its cues from the Chinese circus.

An Oriental soundtrack accompanies the action which, according to the UK-based developer, includes “mind-blowing stunts from the six acrobats”. Each of the characters has their own skills including plate balancing and knife throwing among others.

In game action

During gameplay wild symbols apply a 5x multiplier in the base game and there are up to 25 free spins to be won with the aid of scatter. Just to add to the fun, you’ll be awarded additional spins for every scatter that appears during free spins.

The mobile-compatible slot, which also works smoothly on tablet and desktop, has just nine paylines and a coin size that can be set between 0.09 and 22.5. There’s a jackpot of 8,000, but it’s possible to win huge sums from this slot – the preview video Microgaming has released shows a player scooping a prize of over £60,000, although it’s worth remembering that this is a preview video.

This high variance slot appears to be one which requires persistence to unlock its advanced features, but which rewards patient play with some extremely big wins.

Despite the game being called Six Acrobats, there only appears to be five of them that appear on the reels; perhaps the sixth has stage fright. Whatever the case, five is still more than enough to keep things lively as the circus performers show off their special moves every time they generate a win. Aside from playing card values, there’s the game’s logo which appears as the wild symbol, boosting your chances of winning in both the base game and during free spins.

You’ll receive a generous multiplier

Guanyin, aka the Golden Queen, takes the role of scatter and will award 15, 20 and 25 free spins when you land three, four or five of these on the 5×3 board. All wins generated during free spins will receive a 5x multiplier, except for when a wild is involved, in which case you’ll be granted a generous 25x multiplier.

With the potential to win up to 4,333x your stake in free spins, Six Acrobats looks to be a worthy addition to the Microgaming stable. The game is set for launch in July.

Our Verdict

There’s a fair few Oriental-themed online slots on the market, and it’s a genre that persists in new releases – it’s fair to assume it must be a popular one with players. It makes sense that developer of the stature of Microgaming would capitalise on that popularity with its new launches. The company has some big releases due, including it’s much anticipated Jurassic Park slot that will be available to play imminently. It may be that Six Acrobats slips under the radar a little but, with the amount it can possibly pay out and the bonus features available, it’s a game that players may be keen to see more of. Of course, it’s always wise to take a preview video with a pinch of salt. It’s been released by the developer of the game after all, and the fact that it shows big wins is not such a surprise.

Microgaming’s New HQ Open for Business

MicrogamingISLE OF MAN – Microgaming’s new purpose built HQ on the Isle of Man, adjacent to its existing office, officially opened on 31 July 2017.

Construction began on the new office in April 2015, and just over two years later the company’s building, named Sixty Two, has opened. The 5-storey office houses over 100 employees, with a unique sky bridge joining the new and existing building, creating a campus for the company. All guests will be welcomed in the beautiful reception area that celebrates Microgaming’s product (with a demo wall to showcase games and awards), its employees (with a legends wall honouring the longest-serving members of the team) and its home (with a periscope showing a 360-degree view of Douglas, Isle of Man).

Designed with employees front of mind, the office environment fosters a culture of collaboration and communication. There are 16 meeting rooms, hot desks, and phone booths, as well as plenty of break-out areas on every floor. The entire fourth floor of the building is a communal area, featuring a canteen and coffee shop (with an exclusive Microgaming coffee blend!) to keep employees fuelled, as well as a darts board, pool tables, a poker table, table tennis table and a library for staff to take time out, away from their desks. A high emphasis has been placed on staff wellbeing with the provision of an in-house gym, a treatment room and a spacious studio to host weekly fitness classes, in addition to a rooftop garden offering stunning views of the island.

“Following a number of years of hard work and commitment, it’s incredibly satisfying to see Sixty Two open. A lot of time was spent understanding the needs and wants of our employees so that a building could be designed specifically with them in mind. All involved, including staff and suppliers, should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved – I can’t thank them enough.” John Coleman, CFO of Microgaming

Ensuring the building is as environmentally friendly as possible, Microgaming has worked closely with BREEAM, the world’s foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings. The 45,000 square feet office is one of the first on the Isle of Man to achieve the BREEAM rating of Excellent, reflecting the company’s strong commitment to sustainability.

Key features have been built in to ensure efficient energy and waste management, including smart lighting that automatically dims to reduce consumption, air quality and temperature monitoring, as well as centralised recycling facilities on each floor. In addition, coffees and smoothies at the café are served in reusable cups and the materials used during construction have been repurposed to build new furniture, such as the scaffolding planks which have been turned into a table for the breakout area.

The second office on the island allows for the rapid expansion of Microgaming and Derivco Isle of Man, with overall staff numbers sitting at 231 to date.

“It’s incredible to think that when we set up Microgaming on the island back in 2001 there were just six staff. Now we are a campus in the heart of Douglas, with two large offices, and best of all they are connected by a sky bridge, which was a must for me! It’s an exciting new chapter for Microgaming and I’m immensely proud of what we achieved in our home.” Roger Raatgever, CEO of Microgaming

Microgaming was intent on using Manx-based businesses and workforce wherever possible, including Auldyn Construction Limited, Bell Burton Associates, Curtins, March Consultants Limited and SMS (IOM) Ltd. In addition, local architects, Savage & Chadwick took the lead role in the design of the building.

Interior furnishings were curated by Claire Coleman, who also designed bespoke installations such as the reception desk, the scaffold table, Legends Wall, bar front, library and external building sign. These installations, with the exception of the reception table, have all been manufactured locally by Macro Metal. Internal graphics throughout the building, including the Culture Ambassadors wall, illuminated signage, in addition to the bubble gum machine were produced by The Hive and installed by Vivid Ltd.

Microgaming Rolled Out EmotiCoins Slot

MicrogamingISLE OF MAN – Microgaming is buzzing with excitement with the launch of EmotiCoins, an online slot developed through a staff-powered innovation initiative.

Based on the hugely popular emoticon phenomenon, EmotiCoins is a five reel, 30 payline online slot born from an idea pitched by two members of staff, Anna McChesney and Rob Mercer, at the Microgaming Idea Factory, a staff-powered innovation initiative which won The Spark Award 2017.

“As a marketer, to me the use of emoticons in social media and communication is fascinating; they have essentially become a universal language! 92% of the world’s online population use emoticons, so developing a themed game would automatically target the demographic of our operators’ players.” Anna McChesney, PR Manager for Microgaming

First submitted to the Idea Factory contest in June 2016, Anna and Rob highlighted the use of emoticons in today’s world. For example, including emoticons in Facebook posts can increase the number of likes by 57% and Face with Tears of Joy is the most tweeted emoticon with over 16.5 billion tweets to date*.

The themed slot idea gained the sponsorship of the Business Intelligence team from an early stage, helping the duo refine EmotiCoins by suggesting game features that were most likely to be successful, based on the typical emoticon user. Using these insights, Anna and Rob pitched a unique set of emoticons alongside the feature sets to complement the game’s theme at their final pitch to the Decision Panel (a selection of senior executives) in November.

EmotiCoins was subsequently announced at the staff Christmas party in December 2016 as one of five winning ideas out of the 27 put forward, and its journey from prototype to reality was kick started. Just one month later, one of Microgaming’s game development teams fully embraced the game and began to bring the online slot to life.

It was amazing to see what they did with the research and background we developed. We really love the completed game!” Rob Mercer, Enterprise Solutions Team

Fast forward to August and EmotiCoins is ready to delight players with a mixture of vibrant graphics, upbeat soundtrack and exciting wilds, brought to life by a crew of cheerful emoticons including favourites such as Tears of Joy, Kiss and Winking Face.

EmotiCoins boasts not just one, but two brand new wild features in both the base game and free spins: Wild Blast™ and Wild Stickers™. Players can trigger Wild Blast™ on any spin to grant them five extra Wilds and award a guaranteed win, and landing three scatters in the base game will trigger 10 free spins with Wild Stickers™.

EmotiCoins is sure to have players laughing out loud with wins of up to 92,000 coins and a minimum bet of 0.30.

The game is live with Microgaming and Quickfire operators on desktop and mobile

“We are super excited to be taking live the first game concept driven from the Idea Factory by staff members who would ordinarily not be involved in game conception. And it’s a great game to be our first – the game studio did a fantastic job.” Lydia Barbara, Head of Innovation Strategy at Microgaming

He’s coming back! Microgaming signs licensing deal for horror classic Halloween®

MicrogamingISLE OF MAN – Microgaming has signed a licensing agreement to develop an online slot based on the classic horror movie, Halloween®.

The 1978 American independent slasher film was directed and scored by John Carpenter, co-written with producer Debra Hill, and starred Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis in her film debut. The film centres on the character Michael Myers, who on Halloween night in 1963 at the age of six, murdered his sister. 15 years later, he returns to the fictional midwestern town of Haddonfield, Illinois to continue his killing spree.

Halloween was produced on a small budget of $300,000 and to date has grossed $47 million at the box office in the United States, and $23 million internationally, making a total of $70 million worldwide. It was the first instalment in what has become the Halloween franchise, with 10 films in total released to date.

The film (nearly 40 years later) continues to be a firm favourite with viewers and critics. In 2006 the movie was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”. It also features in many movie polls, including being named in 2010 as one of The 100 Greatest Movies of All Time (Total Film).

“Halloween is a true classic and set the standard for modern horror films. It was immeasurably influential in the slasher genre of movies, so it is great to be working with such an iconic and respected brand. Embracing all the elements of what made the movie such a success, our games team are busy developing a slot for release later in the year.”

David Reynolds, Games Publisher at Microgaming
